Dr Tess Matias obtained her undergraduate dental degree from the University of Western Australia in 1996, and went on to work in private dental practice.In 1999 she moved to Queensland to undertake specialist postgraduate training in Periodontics at the University of Queensland (1999-2001). On completion, she maintained a private periodontal specialist practice in Brisbane City.During this time, she held a part-time teaching, research and clinical appointment at the University of Queensland, School of Dentistry. In 2011, completed a Doctor in Philosophy (PhD) in Immunology and in 2013 completed her second postgraduate specialist degree in Dento-Maxillofacial Radiology (DMFR) with distinction. She is the first Australian dual-registered specialist in Periodontics and Dento-Maxillofacial Radiology. Over the last 10 years, she has worked as Consultant Dento-Maxillofacial Radiologist in multiple private practices in Queensland and Western Australia.
